About ARWC

The Advanced Reading and Writing Center (ARWC) was founded in 2018 by Dr. Penny G. Beers, an educator and corporate educational consultant.

The Center's mission is to empower learners, from teenagers through adults by providing reading and writing strategies and skills needed to be confident and successful in the classroom, in business, and in life.

Following Dr. Beers' successful career in public education, she entered the corporate world, first with Holt, Rinehart and Winston and then with Holt McDougal as a full-time educational consultant. In 2009 she joined Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, as an educational sales consultant.

Dr. Beers’ career in education began as an English and Reading teacher in Camden High School in New Jersey and at Princeton High School outside of Cincinnati, Ohio. She moved to Palm Beach County where she continued teaching English and reading at Suncoast High School. She was promoted to administration as the School District of Palm Beach County’s Secondary Reading and Language Arts Supervisor and later was appointed Acting Director of the Department of Secondary Education.

She has presented workshops as a featured speaker at professional meetings in over 35 state and national educational conferences, has co-authored three books on reading and writing strategies, and has authored five articles in professional journals. In addition, she has held a variety of leadership positions in local, state and national reading organizations.

Now, Dr. Beers is returning to her love of one-to-one teaching and assistance. At the Advanced Reading and Writing Center she will work with students and professionals to share her knowledge.
